How to train your AI chat bot

Your bot is only as smart as what you teach it. Here's exactly how to train it in LiveCustomer — step by step — so it answers like your best employee.

The 7 steps

1. Add your business basics 2. Give your bot a personality 3. Add FAQs (the biggest lever) 4. Feed it your website & documents 5. Set greetings & human handoff 6. Test your bot 7. Improve it over time

In LiveCustomer you train your bot from the Bot setup and Train bot tabs of your dashboard. The more accurate, specific detail you give it, the better it performs. Here's how to do each part well.

Step 1

Add your business basics

In Bot setup, fill in the foundation the bot reasons from:

Be specific. "We offer teeth whitening, cleanings, and Invisalign" beats "dental services." The bot can only say what you tell it.
Step 2

Give your bot a personality

Step 3

Add FAQs — the biggest lever

FAQs are the single most effective way to train your bot. In Train bot, add the real questions customers ask and the exact answers you want given.

Not sure which questions to add? Check the Top questions tab after a few days of traffic — it shows you exactly what customers are asking.
Step 4

Feed it your website & documents

The more real, current content you give it, the fewer "I'm not sure" answers your customers get.

Step 5

Set greetings & human handoff

Step 6

Test your bot

Use the built-in test chat in the Train bot tab to ask questions exactly like a customer would — about pricing, hours, services, and edge cases. Wherever an answer is weak or wrong, go back and add an FAQ or detail to fix it. Repeat until it handles your common questions confidently.

Step 7

Improve it over time

Training isn't one-and-done. A few minutes each week reviewing questions and adding answers keeps your bot sharp and converting.
